Los Angeles Center Studios Celebrates a Decade Downtown
Entertainment Campus in Downtown L.A. Reaches a Ten Year Milestone of Achievement
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Los Angeles Center Studios (LACS), Los Angeles' premier independent studio and entertainment campus, changed the Downtown skyline ten years ago when six state-of-the-art soundstages were constructed. Today, the long term offices are over 90% occupied and the sound stages have achieved 100% utilization for the last four years. This 20-acre lot has transformed from a national oil company's headquarters into a bustling entertainment community, and Downtown has been transformed in unison.
From day one, LACS has attracted the biggest names in entertainment. Austin Powers, Mission Impossible II, Charlie's Angeles, Planet of the Apes, Catch Me If You Can, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Aviator, and Mr. & Mrs. Smith are just a few of the early blockbusters to shoot on the stages. Films such as Dreamgirls, Live Free or Die Hard, National Treasure: Book of Secrets, Get Smart, Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, and Where the Wild Things Are represent some recent examples of the major feature productions to utilize the facilities on the lot. Top TV shows, NUMB3RS, Mad Men, Southland and Better Off Ted, return to Los Angeles Center Studios season after season. In a time when many creative companies are being lured out of the state by tax incentives, LACS is dedicated to the task of promoting and sustaining production in California, and more specifically the greater Los Angeles area. An ever-growing list of long-term creative tenants, like Maya Cinemas, FilmL.A., Entertainment Industry Foundation, and Warnaco, agree that LACS is the ideal Downtown home for the entertainment industry.
The development of Los Angeles Center Studios was a catalyst for other renovations throughout Downtown, particularly on the West side of the freeway. The creative energy and synergy on the lot expanded to the surrounding community. New and refurbished residences, grocery stores, coffee shops, restaurants, entertainment venues, and museums have taken root in the area following the success of LACS. Los Angeles Center Studios' President, Sam Nicassio, commented:
This year, Los Angeles Center Studios celebrates a decade of providing excellent service and top-notch resources to creative companies. It is exciting to witness our campus and, more broadly, Downtown become the entertainment center of Los Angeles. The studio is eager to see the developments that the next ten years will bring.
