Galileo Films Focuses on Improvisation and Originality in Its Mission to Launch Actors and Independent Filmmakers to Stardom

Galileo Films Focuses on Improvisation and Originality in Its Mission to Launch Actors and Independent Filmmakers to Stardom

RIVERSIDE, Calif., Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- New independent film company Galileo Films (http://mygalileofilms.com/) is embarking on its first feature film, "Ben and Jake's Big Deal." The film is scheduled for release in Hollywood summer 2010.

"Ben and Jake's Big Deal" (http://benandjakesbigdeal.com/) is a partially improvisational piece that follows the adventures of two teenage pals as they dodge their boss, Ben's parents and stepbrother as well as anyone to whom they owe money, including the mob. All of the other characters are obsessed with profiting from the duo's revolutionary computer program, except for Ben's mother who is preoccupied with keeping her new maid from potentially fleeing the chaos. But the maid is not who she appears to be.

The purpose of Galileo Films is to cultivate and market independent filmmakers so they can communicate new and fresh points of view. In accordance with that mission, rather than using a detailed script, "Ben and Jake's Big Deal" will rely on improvisational acting. "There are great filmmakers who use this technique, but it is not common in Hollywood," explained director Charese Mongiello and co-owner of Galileo Films.

"I have always dreamed of owning a production company and helping independent filmmakers grow and market their talent," continued Mongiello. "I finally decided it was now or never. At first, I had to do some convincing, then more and more people got involved with this film, and we are building the company at the same time that we are making the film. I want to build a strong safe group with Galileo as well as 'Ben and Jake,' one where artists can take risks as well as be great!"

Mongiello has brought together a team of two producers to help move her vision forward. One is her father, Bob Mongiello, who is co-owner of Galileo Films and a successful entrepreneur who has launched ventures ranging from pizza shops to Internet businesses. Since his specialty is troubleshooting for any type of business, he will focus on the business side of the new company.

Another producer on the team is Michelle Alexandria, who recently produced "First Dog" starring Eric Roberts and Tiny Lister, "Acton Hero" with Brian Thompson and Mark Dacascos, and "Good Guys Finish Last." Along with "Ben and Jake's Big Deal," she is currently in preproduction of a romantic comedy. Alexandria intends to present "Ben and Jake" at AFM this year in hopes of getting distribution.

"The film is being shot using improvisation techniques, but that won't stop us from making it Film Festival quality," said Alexandria. "I am helping Charese work on this film because I believe in her directing abilities. She does such a great job working with actors."

Mongiello herself has produced, directed, starred in and crewed on 20 plays, 30 short films and five feature films. In addition, she has written one commercial, starred in 10 commercials and won a Silver Rooster Award for acting. Upon graduating from the University of California, Irvine, she started a theater called The Rose Theatre where she directed and produced classical plays as well as an improvisational comedy show.

Originality is the element that she finds essential in projects like "Ben and Jake." "I was thrown out of kindergarten for not following the rules, and I plan on using the same spirit to make this movie," she stated.
