Chungmuro International Film Festival with Theme, 'Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow,' Closing

SEOUL, South Korea, Sept. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- The Third Chungmuro International Film Festival in Seoul (CHIFFS) that opened on August 24 under the theme of "Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow" closed with a closing ceremony at 7 p.m. on September 1 at the National Theatre of Korea's Main Hall Hae.

Jeong Dong-il, the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Lee Deok-hwa, the Chairman of the Executive Committee, Director Lee Myung-se, Daniel Serceau (professor of Paris University No. 1), judges, many people related to the film industry and 2009 Miss Korea winners were present at the closing ceremony

CHIFFS that professes to be a film festival in a city, screened 214 films from 40 countries, which was the greatest ever. It gained much interest for having screened films from Mexico, Chile, India, and the Czech Republic that are difficult to get in South Korea.

"Red River" directed by Zhang Jiarui was selected as the Most Outstanding Film of the Competition Section of Chungmuro Offers newly established this year and Director Andres Waissbluth of "199 Tips to be happy" was selected as Best Director.

Also, Zakhari Bakharov of "Zift" directed by Javor Gardev was selected as Best Actor, Karena Lam of "Claustrophobia" directed by Ivy Ho as Best Actress and "Overheard" directed by Alan Mak as the Most Outstanding Action Film.

"White Butterfly" directed by Kim Sam-Ryeok was selected as Special Mention by Adjudicators. Recipients of the Chungmuro Offers Awards were given a prize and a trophy specially manufactured by Crystallized Swarovsky Elements.

Chief of Adjudicator Daniel Serceau said, "We judged at the Competition Section of Chungmuro Offers of the Third Chungmuro Film Festival focused on the cohesion of film elements and considered the message being conveyed to us (spectators) through the movie (story); in other words, the director's philosophy and his efforts made to make the movie, the acting direction of the actors, and the overall montage and cohesion."

Jeong Dong-il, Chairman of the Organizing Committee said at the closing statement, "We will make the Chungmuro Film Festival in Seoul to have more film makers participate and better by taking the third film festival as the springboard, which has improved and compensated the weaknesses of the film festivals in the last two years." "Where is Jung Seung-Phil?" directed by Kang Suk-bum with Lee Beom-su and Kim Min-seon as main actors was screened during the closing ceremony.
