Britain's Oldest Infantry Regiment, the Scots Guards, Visit New York to Raise Funds for Wounded Soldiers and the Families of Those Killed in Action

Britain's Oldest Infantry Regiment, the Scots Guards, Visit New York to Raise Funds for Wounded Soldiers and the Families of Those Killed in Action

"There is only one thing worse than fighting with allies and that is fighting without them. If we are together nothing is impossible, and if we are divided all will fail." Winston Churchill

NEW YORK, Sept. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- On the eve of the anniversary of September 11th, the Pipes and Drums of the Scots Guards are returning to New York. They were first encouraged to visit a few weeks after September 11, 2001 and returned in 2002. The Pipes and Drums are returning with the help of Alan Bain and The American Scottish Foundation to make their own salute to the people of New York City. The British-American community will come together on September 22nd for an unforgettable evening aboard the Intrepid, for the sole purpose to Heal A Soldier's Life - to raise funds to support the families of wounded and killed soldiers. Alan Bain, President Emeritus of ASF says: "We are here in New York to send a message to our soldiers fighting for our freedom and the freedom of others in foreign lands. We will always remember the sacrifices made by our brave."

Key business leaders and servicemen from both sides of the Atlantic will be present to help raise awareness in the U.S. and U.K. to fund the needs of those who suffer most from the losses resulting from battlefield casualties in Iraq and Afghanistan. Successful businessmen like the Honorary Chairman of the 'Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund,' Arnold Fisher, are making a serious difference. He is building state-of-the-art facilities, one recently opened in San Antonio, Texas, to treat soldiers with head trauma. Fisher uses his private money and managerial expertise to get these centers up and running, and then hands them over to the military and government for oversight.

Lt. Colonel William Swinton, who recently commanded the Scots Guards in Iraq and is currently serving in the Pentagon in a liaison role, will deliver a presentation on the Regiment's historic connections with the U.S. military. Whether fighting alongside the 82nd Airborne, or being nicknamed "The Rock" by the United States Marine Corps in Iraq, they have demonstrated how American and British servicemen and women rely on each other both on the battlefield and off., Lt Col. Swinton states, "Today and tomorrow, British and US Forces will be fighting side by side in Afghanistan, sharing hardships and dangers united in a common cause and in mutual admiration. Our two nations are in this together, and we will continue to share the cost of blood shed, and so it seems natural, that together we should extend our own duty of care to our brave and selfless troops who fight on our behalf."

The Gala event on September 22nd will raise much-needed resources for the Colonel's Fund, which provides medical care for Scots Guards injured in action and the families of those killed on the front line.
