WASHINGTON, Aug. 12 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Following is the daily "Profile America" feature from the U.S. Census Bureau:

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 12: BUCK OWENS

Profile America -- Wednesday, August 12th. Today marks the birth date of renowned country singer Buck Owens, born Alvis Edgar Owens. With his band, the Buckaroos, he had 19 consecutive number one singles in the 1960s, such as "Act Naturally" and "Crying Time." The death of his best friend and band member Don Rich in a motorcycle accident took years for Owens to overcome. Besides recording, Buck Owens co-hosted the television show "Hee-Haw" from 1969 to 1986 and was later inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. He died in 2006. Country music has a loyal fan base and accounts for nearly 12 percent of record sales each year. You can find these and more facts about America from the U.S. Census Bureau online at www.census.gov.
