Many Michiganders initiate digging projects each spring. And, did you know that thousands of those people will damage underground utility lines unintentionally? With one call to 811, Michigan's utility notification center MISS DIG System, Inc., will contact utility companies to mark underground utility lines free of charge.

Every digging project requires a call to 811. By having underground lines marked, the risk of causing damage while digging is greatly reduced. Hitting a single line can cause serious personal injuries, damage to the environment, significant repair costs and fines, and inconvenient outages.

This year, we are introducing a new campaign to remind everyone of the importance of calling MISS DIG at 811 before starting any digging projects or seasonal maintenance. The campaign's television public service announcement features NASCAR Rookie Driver Joey Logano making the call to 811 to support safe digging.
