Comcast Cares Day Volunteers Set Company Record for Volunteerism in New England
Comcast's New England Employees Break Regional Record For Turnout, With More Than 5,500 Employees, Families and Friends Pitching In On Annual Day of Service
BOSTON, April 28 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 5,500 New England Comcast employees, family members and friends spent Saturday volunteering at over 50 Comcast Cares Day sites, setting a company record for single-day volunteerism in the region. Last year, more than 4,700 volunteers participated in Comcast Cares Day projects across New England.
Working on projects in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine, volunteers spent the eighth annual Comcast Cares Day landscaping, painting and working on other improvement projects for nonprofits, schools and community centers across New England. One of the largest single days of volunteerism in the country and the centerpiece of Comcast's year-round commitment to community service, Comcast Cares Day exemplifies the company's tradition of using not only its products and services, but also its local workforce to power the dreams of local communities.
"Comcast Cares Day is special every year, but I am especially heartened this year by the number of volunteers who rolled up their sleeves and showed their support for the local communities where we all live and work," said Kevin Casey, President of Comcast's NorthCentral Division. "It is truly a moving experience to see so many people give their time and talents to help their neighbors. This year more than any other, our help was needed, so I want to thank my fellow Comcast employees and everyone else who joined us on Saturday for demonstrating the true power of volunteerism in our communities."
Nationwide, more than 50,000 Comcast volunteers participated in Comcast Cares Day, the company's annual day of service and one of the largest single-day corporate volunteer efforts in the country. Comcast Cares Day is one way that Comcast demonstrates its year-round commitment to making a difference in the communities it serves. The company also provides complimentary video and high-speed Internet services to schools and libraries in the communities it serves and is a stalwart supporter of local nonprofits organizations.
Since the first Comcast Cares Day took place in 2001, more than 170,000 Comcast volunteers have contributed over one million hours of service at more than 1,750 project sites in local communities throughout the country. This year, volunteers donated another 300,000 hours of service, bringing the total service hours during all Comcast Cares Days to more than 1.3 million.
The Comcast Foundation has contributed grants totaling more than $6.6 million to local community partner organizations since the inception of the company's annual day of service. This year, it is again donating significant grants to local community partner organizations across the country on behalf of each employee and family member who volunteers on Comcast Cares Day. The grants will help Comcast's community partners continue their mission of serving the community throughout the year and help power the dreams of neighborhoods nationwide.
