WEGENER(R) Receives Repeat Order from The Nielsen Company for NAVE IIc(TM) Nielsen Audio Encoders
Order For Encoders Used to Insert The Nielsen Company's Program Tracking Codes within Compressed, Multiplexed ATSC Transport Streams
DULUTH, Ga., March 31 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Wegener Corporation (NASDAQ:WGNR) , a leading provider of equipment for television, audio and data distribution networks worldwide, today announced that The Nielsen Company (Nielsen) has placed a new commitment for NAVE IIc(TM) Nielsen Audio Encoders. This is a follow on to previous orders from Nielsen.
Manufactured and sold by WEGENER, the NAVE IIc is a next-generation Nielsen Audio Video Encoder (NAVE) that is uniquely capable of inserting Nielsen's proprietary NAVE source identification watermarking directly into the audio portion of compressed digital ATSC transport streams prior to broadcast. The NAVE IIc can simultaneously insert watermarking data on up to four independent digital television programs being broadcast whether they are standard definition (SDTV) or high definition (HDTV), providing considerable savings over alternative products.
"WEGENER and Nielsen have worked closely together on this important project and we look forward to continuing that relationship with the NAVE IIc and other products in the future," stated Bob Luff, Nielsen EVP and Chief Technology Officer.
Since Nielsen first ordered the NAVE IIc from WEGENER in 2005, these encoders have been sold to broadcast facilities in the top 210 U.S. television markets by WEGENER. As the nation's broadcasters shut-off their analog TV signals and shift to digital television (DTV) operations, which is federally mandated by June 12, 2009, demand for this vital, effective DTV encoding solution will continue.
"In the compressed DTV domain, the WEGENER NAVE IIc is the only means of inserting Nielsen tracking information to determine TV ratings and ultimately, the rates that can be charged for commercial time, which is the lifeblood of the broadcasting business," said Ned L. Mountain, president and chief operating officer of WEGENER. "We're extremely pleased that Nielsen continues to entrust WEGENER with the continued manufacture of its NAVE IIc encoder, as well as its SpoTTrac digital encoder used by advertising agencies for tracking spots."
The order will be deployed through WEGENER's third quarter of fiscal 2010 ending May 28, 2010.
