V-Learning Technology to Be Featured in Public TV Series
OKLAHOMA CITY, March 9 /PRNewswire/ -- One of the few bright spots in the U.S. national economy has been the continuing growth of online training and education. While the industry is often referred to as "e-learning," in a soon-to-be-aired public television documentary, it becomes evident that the existing approach to online education may actually be nearing the end of its life cycle as new technologies come on the scene. The public television documentary features the radically new technologies and products of Vertical Learning Curve, a company with offices in Oklahoma City and New York City.
The company, Vertical Learning Curve (http://www.vlcglobal.com/), was formed in response to frequent requests by industry, education, and government to employ advanced technologies to improve the quality and reduce the costs of training and education. VLC personnel produce corporate training, graduate and undergraduate courses, and classes for middle and high school students, delivered via the Internet. But this is nothing like the commonplace "classroom through a wire" e-learning with which some trainers and educators have become disenchanted. E-learning is one thing. V-learning is something else entirely. The "V" stands for the 3D Virtual Reality technologies used in video games and sophisticated flight and medical simulations. VLC combines the skills of its educators and computer programmers with screenwriters, actors, and animators to create virtual worlds in which users must learn to deal with real-world challenges. The results? Totally engaged users, improved retention, and much lower costs.
The documentary was produced by Emmy-winning producer Derek Watson as part of an OETA TV series called State of Creativity. In its documentary, OETA unveils the Virtual Reality training, interviews VLC staff, and probes the thinking of a major American Human Resource company to learn how and why V-learning may be the solution to freeing up school teachers and corporate trainers to do what they do best while dramatically cutting the costs of educating America's youth and training its workforce.
The VLC story appears in the March episode of State of Creativity, premiering Tuesday, March 17 at 9 p.m., with encores on Saturday, March 21 at 6:30 p.m. and Tuesday, March 31 at 9 p.m. For more information, go to http://www.creativity.oeta.tv/.
