Austin's Own NewsRadio 590 KLBJ Named Finalist for Prestigious Crystal Radio Awards
AUSTIN, Texas, March 31 /PRNewswire/ -- NewsRadio 590 KLBJ has been named one of 50 nationwide finalists for the National Association of Broadcasters' Crystal Radio Awards, which recognizes outstanding year-round commitment to community service. It is the only radio station in Texas to be recognized.
"In 2008, 590 KLBJ provided news reports and alerts on the air, dozens of twitter news alerts and hundreds of minutes of Public Service Announcements, which helped our community partners raise more than $750,000 through the help of approximately 250,000 citizens," Scott Gillmore, Market VP of Emmis Austin Radio, said. "Operation Call Home, which is our biggest annual fundraising event, gathered $32,897.90 in donations that went toward purchasing 2,700 phone cards for soldiers to use during the holidays. Last but certainly not least, KLBJ's seasoned staff followed the station's on-air and online dedication to community service by volunteering 1,287 hours of their own time to various causes."
KLBJ-AM won a Crystal Radio Award in 1994.
Finalists will be honored and the ten winners announced at the Radio Luncheon, sponsored by ASCAP, on Tuesday, April 21, during the NAB Show in Las Vegas.
