Billy Collins, Limon Dance, Ljova & the Kontraband and Others Take the Stage

Two Nights of Poetry, Dance, Art and Music at Tribeca Performing Arts Center

NEW YORK, Feb. 9 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Former US Poet Laureate Billy Collins and the legendary Limon Dance will perform at Tribeca Performing Arts Center (BMCC) on February 27 and 28, respectively, as part of a performance series sponsored by International Arts Movement. Tickets for both nights are on sale at www.tribecapac.org.

In addition to Billy Collins, Friday night's performance will feature award-winning jazz pianist Helen Sung and painter Makoto Fujimura, former member of the National Council on the Arts and winner of the NEA Chairman's Medal (2009).

Collins will sign his books, including his latest collection, "Ballistics," for ticket holders after the show.

Saturday night's performance will feature Limon Dance, LIGHTPAINTER Eva Flatscher and Ljova and the Kontraband.

Journalist Alice Rhee will moderate a panel of artists addressing the power of the arts in humanitarian causes.

About the Performers:

Billy Collins served as United States Poet Laureate from 2001-2003 and New York State Poet Laureate from 2004-2006. His last three collections of poems have broken sales records for poetry, and his readings are usually standing room only. Limon Dance was awarded the 2008 National Medal of Arts by the National Endowment for the Arts in recognition of its innovative contributions to America modern dance over half a century. Ljova and the Kontraband have been hailed by Billboard as "one of New York's fastest rising composers and instrumentalists" and have performed at MoMA, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, and Joe's Pub. Helen Sung, winner of the Kennedy Center's 2007 Mary Lou Williams Piano Competition, is hailed as "one of the brightest emerging stars in jazz today." Makoto Fujimura is an internationally renown artist and author of several books, most recently Refractions (NavPress, 2009). Eva Flatscher is a Viennese artist who created an avant-garde combination of painting, dance and music, known as LIGHTPAINTING.
