Plymouth Rock Studios Receives Nod From Environmental Secretary
PLYMOUTH, Mass., Jan. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- The proposed Plymouth Rock Studios project took another major step forward this week when the Massachusetts Secretary of Environmental Affairs issued an Expanded Environmental Notification Form Certificate. The Secretary's certificate will allow the project to file a single Environmental Impact Report, significantly shortening the timeframe for the project's environmental review.
In addition, the Secretary has proposed to grant a waiver to Plymouth Rock Studios that will allow the construction of an access road to the project site prior to the completion of the environmental review for the overall project. The mile-long road will keep traffic off of local roads by providing direct access to the studio property and will also create a new entrance to the Plymouth South High School/Middle School complex adjacent to the property.
In his ruling, Secretary of Energy and Environmental Affairs Ian A. Bowles wrote, "The project includes a noteworthy commitment to design and build a state-of-the-art, green sustainable studio that will minimize the project's environmental footprint, provide exposure for renewable energy, technologies including a 500kw solar photovoltaic system, and serve as a model for developers in Massachusetts and studio heads in Hollywood."
"The Secretary's decision confirms our commitment to the environment and will allow us to proceed quickly through the environmental review process," said Plymouth Rock Studios Executive Vice President of Planning and Development, Bill Wynne.
Plymouth Rock Studios will be the world's first LEED(R)-certified, environmentally friendly studio complex.
