Newly Launched filmdetroit.com Offers Free Assistance to Studios and Production Companies

DETROIT, Jan. 21 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Organized in mid-2008, the Film Detroit Action Committee (FDAC) brings together key leaders from the Detroit Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau's Film Detroit division, Wayne, Oakland, Macomb and Washtenaw counties, the cities of Detroit and Ann Arbor, the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation (DEGC), Michigan Economic Growth Corporation (MEGC), Wayne State University and the Michigan Film Office, in order to provide a seamless source of assistance to the fast growing film and television production industry in Southeast Michigan.

Michigan's industry-leading incentive package offers rebates to motion picture and TV producers and directors to film some or all of their approved scripts in the state, and most of the early and ongoing activity generated centers around the area popularly known as "Detroit."

"Producers and film executives in Los Angeles and New York have usually never heard of Wayne or Oakland counties," according to Christopher Baum, Senior Vice President, Sales & Marketing of the DMCVB and Film Detroit, "so we decided early on to work together as a team to present all of Southeast Michigan as one cohesive group, under the FDAC name, using the filmdetroit.com website as our central source of information." Free services available include assistance with location scouting, finding office space and hotel accommodations, filing for permits through individual cities and towns and handling emergency and VIP requests once a movie is in production on a 24/7 basis.

The new filmdetroit.com website is maintained by the DMCVB, but carries direct links to most member organizations. "A rising tide lifts all ships," according to Baum, "so by referring business amongst ourselves, and assisting each project with the accommodations, office space, locations and services that best meet their script's unique demands, each county and city in the region will do well in the long run."

Film Detroit aggressively pursues film business for metro Detroit like their parent organization, the DMCVB, does for the meeting, convention and tourism industries. They are currently reviewing proposals for full time public relations representation in Los Angeles and will have a high profile presence at key industry tradeshows in Southern California this year, as well as making ongoing sales calls on studios and production houses and hosting hip social events for industry decision-makers.
