The TV Converter Box Coupon Program is designed to help households continue receiving over-the-air television when full-power television stations cease analog broadcasting after February 17, 2009, as authorized in the Digital Television Transition and Public Safety Act of 2005. The digital transition will impact households that have over-the-air analog TV and use "rabbit ears" or a rooftop antenna for TV reception.
Consumers receiving their TV programming over-the-air with an analog set will need to make one of three timely choices about how to watch TV after that date or risk losing their service: 1.) Buy a converter box that will plug into the analog TV 2.) Buy a TV with a digital tuner 3.) Connect the analog TV to cable, satellite or other pay service.
