blip.tv and ActiveVideo Networks Sign Deal to Bring Original Online Shows Directly to Television

SAN JOSE, Calif. and NEW YORK, Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Today ActiveVideo Networks(TM) and online media company blip.tv announced a deal that will enable blip.tv content to be featured in the Web-infused television environment created by the ActiveVideo(TM) Distribution Network.

ActiveVideo intelligently streams traditional programming and Web-based content to digital set-top boxes and Web-connected CE devices. ActiveVideo combines the personalized, socially-connected experience that viewers have come to expect from the Web with the quality, immediacy and remote-control navigation of television.

"While the wealth of content on the Web is appealing to viewers, the adoption of flat screen devices over the past several years shows that people still place a high value on watching great content on the television set," said Duncan Campbell, Vice President of Business Development for ActiveVideo Networks. "By working with blip.tv, we can help service providers and CE manufacturers differentiate themselves by powering personal televisions with some of the best original content on the Web."

ActiveVideo Networks increases value for cable and IPTV operators and the consumer electronics industry by enabling the creation of a new interactive television environment. Using standard remote controls, viewers can engage with Web-based programming in the 10-foot, lean-back world characteristic of TV.

"Web-connected televisions are designed to exponentially expand the viewing choices available to consumers," said blip.tv Director of Business Development John Fitzpatrick. "ActiveVideo's ability to deliver customized streams to every viewer, with a great user interface, enables us to offer the best of both worlds: a terrific variety of original programming and a compelling user experience on the TV set."

Founded in May 2005, blip.tv hosts, distributes and monetizes the top independent shows on the Web, including programs produced by Michael Eisner's Tornante Company, 60Frames and DECA. Michael Moore recently selected blip.tv as the primary distribution platform for his film "Slacker Uprising". Blip.tv matches top shows with sponsors and also operates a network of advertising networks for emerging shows. All advertising revenue is shared equally between blip.tv and show creators. Blip.tv sponsors include Unilever, Puma and Holiday Inn Express.
