Ageless Rocker Voted Air Guitar Queen in AARP and Foreigner's National Air Guitar Competition

Ageless Rocker Voted Air Guitar Queen in AARP and Foreigner's National Air Guitar Competition

***More than 7,000 Online Votes Cast to Determine Winner***

WASHINGTON, Dec. 18 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- AARP, the world's largest advocacy organization for the 50+ community and the legendary rock band Foreigner, today announced the winner of the "Air Guitar for My Guitar" national air guitar competition. Linda Frey, age 50, from Allentown, PA was named the victor after more than 7,000 votes were cast online by the public to determine the outcome. She will receive the grand prize of a trip for two to Honolulu, Hawaii to meet Foreigner on New Year's Eve at their last tour stop, as well as an autographed limited edition Gibson Signature Series Les Paul Guitar worth $10,000 from lead guitarist and the band's founder, Mick Jones.

"Linda truly embodies what it means to be boomer -- from her air guitar skills to the activities she leads in her everyday life," said Emilio Pardo, Executive Vice President and Chief Brand Officer, AARP. "Congratulations Linda!"

Added Mick Jones, "We were really impressed by Linda's rock star moves! We're looking forward to meeting her in Hawaii."

AARP launched the "Air Guitar for My Guitar" competition with Foreigner earlier this year as yet another way to engage its 40 million members and connect with them via music. The contest was open to people of all ages and required contestants to submit short videos either online or in person at select stops on Foreigner's national "Feels Like the First Time" tour presented by AARP. A mobile video recording unit was sent to Foreigner's concert tour stops and AARP's Life@50+ national event to capture the video entries from attendees. Contestants were asked to record a short air guitar performance to a Foreigner song that showcased their air guitar skills. More than 500 entries were received and then narrowed down to the top 20 finalists by AARP and Foreigner. The top 20 videos were available for viewing and voting online from November 14-21, 2008.
