Youssou Ndour: I Bring What I Love to Appear at Middle East Film Festival
Highly Anticipated Documentary Accepted into Competition at the Middle East International Film Festival
NEW YORK, Oct. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Youssou Ndour: I Bring What I Love, an unprecedented documentary film on the famed Senegalese singer, Youssou Ndour, was officially selected for competition at the Middle East International Film Festival (MEIFF). It will make its UAE premiere at the Emirates Place in Abu Dhabi on the evening of October 17th. The film is directed by Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and is a presentation of Groovy Griot Films in association with 57th & Irving Productions.
Vasarhelyi presents Ndour's strikingly beautiful music as the backdrop to the film and takes her audience behind-the-scenes and across the globe to Ndour's home, Senegal. The film delighted audiences at both the Telluride and Toronto film festivals and Oscilloscope Laboratories bought the US distribution rights following the Toronto International Film Festival. At both festivals, Ndour fielded questions and performed live; as he will again following the film's MEIFF red-carpet competition screening.
In the film, Vasarhelyi, captures tender moments such as, Ndour cradling his ailing grandmother and playing with his children. These intimate glimpses into Ndour's private life are contrasted by such momentous events as his testimony in front of the United States Congress concerning his involvement in anti-malaria causes and his sold-out performance at Carnegie Hall.
Oscilloscope Laboratories is planning a U.S. theatrical release of the film in June 2009.
