RoC(R) Presents the 'Gold Standard in Filmmaking' Award to a Winning Woman Filmmaker at the 16th Annual Hamptons International Film Festival

NEW YORK, Oct. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- On Saturday, October 18th 2008 at the Hamptons International Film Festival, RoC(R) Skincare will support the talent and creativity of women in the film industry by presenting the first ever "Gold Standard in Filmmaking" Award to acclaimed Director Elissa Down. As a brand dedicated to excellence, RoC(R) is recognizing Down as a rising and accomplished talent by presenting her with the first Award at the screening of her latest film "The Black Balloon," starring Toni Colette, Rhys Wakefield and Gemma Ward.

"We are pleased to present Elissa Down with the first ever RoC(R) 'Gold Standard in Filmmaking' Award," says Katie Devine, Group Product Director of RoC(R) Skincare. "Elissa's outstanding work on 'The Black Balloon' and her portfolio of past work, serves as an inspiration for women everywhere striving to meet their own personal gold-standards in excellence."

Born and raised in Australia, Down knew early on in life that she was destined to be in the film industry. After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree at Curtin University (Perth), she began her foray into the film world and quickly garnered a substantial body of work. She has directed a number of acclaimed films including "Ladybirds," "Summer Angst," "The Cherry Orchard," "Her Outback," "The Bathers," "HMAS Unicorn," "Samantha Stewart," "Aged Fourteen" and "Pink Pyjamas." Her latest work, "The Black Balloon" is a dramedy inspired by Down's own family. But while it's a personal story, it is also a universal family film that captures the power of a mother's love. "I believe the characters create such an emotional impact that they'll linger with the audience long after they leave the cinema," says Down.

Karen Arikian, Executive Director of the Hamptons International Film Festival states, "We are pleased to have the support of RoC(R) in honoring Elissa Down with this premier award; we hope that it encourages women to further develop their unique talents in film for years to come."

Since 1957 RoC(R) has developed award-winning formulations and has been a true innovator in anti-aging skin care. As the pioneer of Retinol, known as the "gold standard" in anti-aging ingredients, RoC(R) delivers on its promise to bring women products that are infused with the latest in anti-aging technologies. Even though anti-aging products continue to be prevalent in the market, only RoC(R) RETINOL CORREXION(R) products are clinically proven to give years back to the look of skin.

The presentation of the RoC(R) "Gold Standard in Filmmaking" Award will take place at the screening of "The Black Balloon" from 1pm-3pm on Saturday, October 18th at the United Artists Theater in East Hampton, New York.
