Labor Launches Nationwide Ad Campaign to Get Out the Vote Featuring Celebrity Artist Ludacris
WASHINGTON, Oct. 27 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- As part of the "My Vote. My Right" voter protection campaign, the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) with the AFL-CIO today announced the launch of a nationwide radio ad campaign urging citizens, particularly newly registered voters, to vote on Election Day and advises those going to the polls how to be prepared to protect their vote.
This year there are record numbers of voters old and young who will participate in the election process for the first time. Already, in states around the country voters are breaking records for early voting. It is absolutely imperative that every vote count and that every eligible voter exercise their right to cast a ballot.
"From all walks of life, ordinary Americans are going to determine which direction this country is headed. We want to make sure that everyone who can vote, does vote and that every vote is counted," said John Gage, AFGE national president.
The radio ad features rapper Ludacris who donated his services. The ads express the fierce urgency of citizen participation in the voting process, which so many Americans sacrificed for in order to have the right to vote. It is no longer acceptable to stand on the sidelines. The ads also remind voters to verify their voter registration and polling places ahead of time and to bring ID to the polls in order to make sure they are allowed to cast their vote.
"The overall objective of our voter protection campaign is to have the nation's citizens successfully get top the polls, cast ballots, and have their ballots counted," said Andrea E. Brooks AFGE national vice-president for Women and Fair Practices. "Americans cannot continue to have their ability to participate in the democratic process taken away from them."
AFGE is the largest federal employee union representing 600,000 workers in the federal government and the government of the District of Columbia.
