Retirement Living TV Announces Series Premiere of Viewpoint with Lea Thompson on July 18, 2008

Emmy-Winning Magazine Program Examines Controversial and Relevant Issues Facing Seniors

WASHINGTON, July 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Retirement Living TV (RLTV), the first network dedicated to people 55+, announced today a foray into an often overlooked field of television programming -- senior centric investigative journalism. Viewpoint with Lea Thompson is a hard-hitting magazine program addressing controversial and relevant issues that confront seniors. Hosted by award-winning journalist Lea Thompson, this program exposes and examines topics including medical marijuana, faith healing, aging in the prison system and hospital infections, all from the perspective of an older demographic.

Medical marijuana, a flagship topic on the program, was expanded into a special that recently won a regional Emmy award. The special aired in advance of the series premiere due to its pertinence during the time of California legislation on legalizing the drug for medicinal use. Alexis Abramson, PhD, RLTV's VP of research, served as the field reporter for the special as well as other portions of the series including "The New Faces of Alzheimer's."

Viewpoint with Lea Thompson begins its series run July 18, 2008 at noon and will continue to air on Fridays at the same time.

One of the most powerful pieces on the program is a look at the nation's aging prison population. "Prisoners have an absolute right to good if not excellent health care by Supreme Court ruling," said Thompson. "Prisoners actually have better health care then the rest of society. It's costing taxpayers a fortune."

Lea Thompson is the former NBC Chief Consumer Correspondent, celebrated for her hard-hitting investigative pieces that focused primarily on consumer, health, safety and environmental issues. She is perhaps best known for her work on NBC's Dateline that brought about new warning labels on Infant Tylenol and new procedures at Sears to keep used batteries from being sold as new. She also prompted legislation in California that mandated all bedding and mattresses be flame retardant and all home health aides have background checks.

"Viewpoint with Lea Thompson aggressively advocates awareness and social action on behalf of seniors," said Elliot Jacobson, VP of programming and production, RLTV. "Having someone of Lea's reputation involved with this project solidifies Retirement Living TV's commitment to changing perceptions of aging."

Matthew Borten is the executive producer of Viewpoint with Lea Thompson. About Retirement Living TV
