Slacker MySpace DJ Search Winner to Receive Personal Backyard Concert From Indie Rock Band Sherwood
From Band Bios and Album Reviews to Backyard Concerts, Slacker Radio Strives to Bring Artists and Listeners Together
SAN DIEGO, May 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Slacker, Inc., the world's first Personal Radio company, today announced Tim Lynch as the winner of its MySpace-based DJ Search Contest. The DJ Search Contest asked Slacker listeners and MySpace friends to submit their customized Slacker radio station with the creator of the best station receiving a backyard concert from MySpace Records artist Sherwood and a Slacker prize package including a 40 Station Slacker Portable, one year of Slacker Premium Radio, a featured station listing under the "Slacker Spotlight" section of Slacker's station directory and more.
"Whether performing a sold out show, or playing in a backyard, we are here to share our music with fans," said Dan Koch of Sherwood. "Tim created a great custom station that took him to the top of Slacker's DJ search contest and we are psyched to reward him by going to his house to perform a live, personal concert."
After Slacker listeners submitted their custom station link, Slacker DJs listened to and judged each station based on listening experience, creativity of the station description and original station image. The winner, Tim Lynch from Chico, California was selected for his station entitled "Project Airwaves" which can be heard on the Slacker Personal Radio website at www.slacker.com/projectairwaves.
"Slacker let me create a custom radio station from music that in part defines who I am," said Tim Lynch, winner of the Slacker MySpace DJ Search Contest. "I am stoked to have won the MySpace DJ Search Contest and am looking forward to having Sherwood perform live at my house."
"MySpace Records is proud to give Sherwood and Slacker fans an opportunity to have an up close and personal experience with one of our signed artists," said Danny Ornelas, National Director of Marketing for MySpace Records. "We are dedicated to encouraging fans to take part in interacting with our musicians and think it's great that services like Slacker are doing the same."
In addition to over 100 professionally programmed genre stations and over 10,000 artist stations, Slacker enables users to create their own custom stations based on the artists that they like. The "Create Station" feature allows Slacker users to add as many or as few artists as they choose to create their own custom stations. Listeners can "Fine Tune" their custom stations, to hear more current vs. classic songs, hits vs. fringe as well as choose the level of "favorited" songs vs. new artist discovery. To top it off, Slacker listeners can add a custom name, description and image for their station and then post it to a MySpace page or email the link to a friend.
"The DJ Search gave us the opportunity to showcase what Slacker does best -- giving listeners a truly personal radio experience," said Jonathan Sasse, VP of Marketing for Slacker. "We received unique and inspiring custom stations from Slacker listeners and are pleased to reward the winner by having Sherwood play a concert live in his backyard."
Northern California-based Sherwood was the first rock band to sign with MySpace Records and is currently on tour in Europe. Sherwood released their second full-length album, A Different Light, in March 2007 -- their first album release since the group signed with MySpace Records in 2006.
