The Humanitarian Media Foundation (HMF) Launches May 1, 2008, Announcing Its First Public Initiative
NEW YORK and LOS ANGELES, May 1 /PRNewswire/ -- The Humanitarian Media Foundation (HMF), which launches officially May 1, 2008, has announced its first public initiative, The 2008 HMF International Film/Media Festival & Conference, which will be held in New York City December 10-14, 2008 at the Tribeca Cinemas, Gallery and Event spaces.
The 2008 Festival & Conference will include the following components: 1) A high-profile international, competitive film festival for international film, both narrative and documentary, in short and long forms, with sidebars representing specific humanitarian crises. 2) Art/Photographic gallery openings and exhibitions, from among internationally-known artists and photojournalists, both to explore critical humanitarian crises and subject matter, and to raise funds for the issues themselves. Several key slots will also be open for a competitive Call for Entries. 3) A high-profile conference among international policy institutions, international journalists, news agencies, new media companies, representatives of social media and Web 2.0, filmmakers and documentarians, humanitarian NGO's and aid agencies to better facilitate collaboration critical to humanitarian media exposure.
Calls for Entries for the Film Festival and open slots for the Art/Photographic Exhibition, and a Call for Papers for the Conference portion, will begin June 1, 2008.
The HMF will also be instituting General Program and Emergency Media Grant Funds, as well as the HMF Film Fund, to help fund major narrative and documentary projects, starting in 2009.
