Radio Host Michael Baisden to Receive Keepers of the Dream Award on 40th Anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s Death

Popular Host of The Michael Baisden Show will be Honored by National Action Network

DALLAS, April 2, 2008 /PRNewswire/ -- National radio personality Michael Baisden, host of ABC Radio Networks' The Michael Baisden Show, will be honored with a Keepers of the Dream Award on Friday, April 4 in Memphis, Tenn. Baisden will receive the award from the National Action Network, which annually honors those who share the same vision and ideals of community outreach with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This year's award recognition coincides with the 40th anniversary of the late civil rights leader's death. Baisden will accept the award while in Memphis for a special live broadcast of his radio program.

Heard in 22 of the top 25 urban radio markets, Baisden is an author, TV talk show host and emerging leader known for promoting social outreach and justice across America. In September 2007, Baisden mobilized millions of listeners, on-air, online and on-site for the "Jena 6" march in Jena, La., which gathered thousands of citizens for a peaceful event in support of six young men whose families believed they were unfairly treated by the justice system.

Baisden's other significant achievements include driving attendance for the anti-hate march on the Department of Justice in November 2007 and his continuous dedication to mentoring today's youth and rising entrepreneurs.

"It's quite an honor to be recognized with a Keeper of the Dream Award during a time when we are celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.," said Baisden. "I am humbled by this award and hope I can somehow assist in the efforts of achieving Dr. King's lifelong dream of leading and inspiring others to make a difference in the lives of all Americans."

Baisden's live broadcast will also feature on-site voter registration, interviews with various media personalities and participation in a "Recommitment March" from City Hall to the Lorraine Motel where Dr. King was assassinated. National Action Network President Rev. Al Sharpton and Martin Luther King III will lead the march and present Baisden with his award.
