Men More Likely to Have Problems with Memory and Thinking Skills

When it comes to remembering things, new research shows men are more likely than women to have mild cognitive impairment, the transition stage before dementia. These findings will be presented at the American Academy of Neurology Annual Meeting in Chicago. The study found men were one-and-a-half times more likely to have mild cognitive impairment than women. The finding remained the same regardless of a man's education or marital status.

One in Thirty-three Homeowners Projected to Be in Foreclosure Within the Next Two Years

One in thirty-three homeowners is projected to be in foreclosure over the next two years, as a result of subprime loans made in 2005 and 2006, according to a new report released today by The Pew Charitable Trusts. In some states, the outlook is especially grim; for instance, nearly one in eleven homeowners in Nevada is projected to be in foreclosure and one in eighteen Arizona homeowners may face the same circumstance over the next two years. Homeowners being foreclosed upon may not be the only homeowners affected, according to data cited in the report. An additional forty million neighboring homeowners may see their property values and their municipalities' tax bases drop by as much as three hundred and fifty-six billion dollars over the same period.

Number of Honey Bee Colonies Continues to Decline in the U.S.

Honey bees in the U-S, responsible for pollinating more than one hundred different crops worth fifteen billion dollars annually, continue to experience population decreases as evidenced by a study commissioned by Apiary Inspectors of America. The A-I-A commissioned the survey of U-S beekeepers to estimate colony losses across the country between September 2007 and 2008. Nearly thirteen percent of the country's estimated two-point-four million colonies were surveyed and a thirty-six percent overall loss of managed honey bee colonies was recorded. This equates to fourteen percent more total losses compared to last year.
