'GRIPPIN'' (FEATURING LUDACRIS) FIRST SINGLE FROM HITMAKING SONGWRITER AND PRODUCER IS #1 ADDED SONG TO URBAN RADIO THIS WEEK!
Debut album TURBO 919 in stores Summer 2008
Four years as 'The Pen' - songwriting force behind hits by Usher, Destiny's Child and Beyonce, Pussycat Dolls and Nicole Scherzinger, Fergie, Chris Brown, Ciara, Kelly Rowland, Enrique Iglesias, Britney Spears, and more!
NEW YORK, March 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Mega-successful songwriter, producer, and now performing artist Sean Garrett -- who holds the distinction of penning no less than 12 #1 singles over the last 4 years, a track record that spans Usher's chart-historic "Yeah!" in 2004, to Chris Brown's "Run It" in 2005, to Fergie's "London Bridge" in 2006, to Kelly Rowland's "Like This" in 2007 -- now takes a giant step into the spot light as a solo artist in 2008, with the release of his debut single on Bet I Penned It/Interscope Records, "Grippin'" (featuring Ludacris).
"Grippin'," which impacted at urban radio on March 4th, is the most added song in its first week out. As the first single from TURBO 919, the debut album by Sean Garrett, arrives in stores summer 2008.
The promotional video for "Grippin'" was directed by veteran Hype Williams, whose credits range from Beyonce's "Check on It" (one of Sean's many #1 hits), to a long string of clips with Kanye West, including "Diamonds from Sierra Leone," "Gold Digger" (featuring Jamie Foxx), "Stronger," and others.
Sean's first major writing credit was Usher's "Yeah!" (on LaFace) featuring Lil' Jon and Ludacris, which spent 12 weeks at #1 and detonated a chain reaction of well-documented chart achievements: the highest first week sales by a male R&B artist in Soundscan's 13-year history (for Usher's Confessions album), part of a triple-play of Usher hits inside the Top 10 at the same time (the first time any act had done it since the Beatles in 1964), and so on.
No wonder Jay-Z nicknamed Sean, "The Pen." Upcoming in 2008 are new projects with Whitney Houston, Raven-Symone, Michelle Williams, Ashlee Simpson, and more. But at a certain point, Sean looked inward. "Yeah, The Pen has earned you Grammy nominations and BMI's Songwriter of the Year Awards," he said to himself, "but what happened to Sean Garrett, The Performer?" "Grippin'" and TURBO 919 are the first steps toward answering that question.
