Richard and Mica Hadar Foundation Scholar Yuriy Bekker Named Concert Master
NEW YORK, March 6 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Richard and Mica Hadar Foundation scholar and violinist Yuriy Bekker was selected to be the Concert Master of the Charleston, South Carolina Symphony. A native of Minsk, Belarus, Yuriy Bekker moved to New York City with his family in 1992. He received a Graduate Performance Diploma from the Peabody Conservatory after earning Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from Indiana University's School of Music. He was the concertmaster of the Peabody Symphony and a frequent guest concertmaster and soloist with various orchestras in the New York City and Baltimore areas. Most recently, he was the concertmaster and a faculty member at the AIMS Festival in Graz, Austria. His recent solo appearance at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival with pianist Andrew Armstrong as his partner created a sensation. The Charleston City Paper art critic Lindsay Koob observed, "This man was born to play the fiddle. Plump, smooth tone, uncanny control, stiletto-sharp intonation, musicality and passion to burn. He's got it all, and then some."
Richard Hadar, founder of the Richard and Mica Hadar Foundation stated, "Providing Yuriy Bekker with a scholarship epitomizes all the foundation is striving to do for young creative artists. Not only providing them with college scholarships and stipends to attend music festivals around the world, but also having mentors, Enid and Jack Benezra, professional musicians in their own right, help guide Yuriy on his successful path in becoming an outstanding and highly sought after musician. We are very proud of his achievements so early in his career and know we will be hearing many more great things about him."
Yuriy Bekker wrote, "The Richard and Mica Hadar Foundation is a vital organization that helped build my career. Coming back to all the meetings, various events with the mentors, and annual concerts, the Richard and Mica Hadar Foundation became a family. Performing opportunities at their annual concerts gave me so much experience. The Richard and Mica Hadar Foundation helped me grow and improve as a musician and I can't thank Richard and Mica Hadar enough for their support."
