VANCOUVER, Feb. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- In just 24 seconds, 35-year old Darwin Head went from being a sawmill worker to Canada's newest millionaire, as the Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, resident scored the $1 million grand prize tonight in TSN's second annual, international award-winning million-dollar giveaway, the Chevrolet Malibu Million Dollar Shootout. The event was televised live on TSN and TSN HD, Canada's leading all-sports network, during the first intermission of the game broadcast featuring Colorado Avalanche @ Vancouver Canucks.

Head scored 15 goals - the exact number needed - in 24 seconds into an open net from the far blue line at General Motors Place to win $1 million in a one-time payout. Prior to the shootout, Head and his two friends - avid hockey player and cousin Lance Badger, and die-hard Canucks fan Randy Bout - netted a combined 15 goals into an open net from centre ice, each winning a totally new Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid. In addition, Ryan Gloag of Surrey, British Columbia, also won a Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid as the selected in-arena fan attending the game at General Motors Place, for a total of four cars given away tonight.

"This is just unreal. I can't wait to have a huge party and celebrate with my family and friends back home in Prince Albert," said Head. "And it feels so great that my wife and I will be able to look after our kids' futures with this money."

"Chevrolet is proud to be participating again in this year's Million Dollar Shootout and is thrilled to award Darwin the Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid, the 2008 North American Car of the Year," adds Jim Scott, Advertising Manager for Chevrolet. "A winner driving away in an award winner, how great is that?"

At 5'9" and 215 lbs., Head, a father of three and a sawyer at Carrier Forest Products Ltd. in Prince Albert, was randomly chosen from 8.6 million total online entries, far surpassing any previous contest or promotional campaign on TSN. As part of the contest, Head also had the chance to hone his wrist shot in a special one-hour practice session with Hall of Fame defenceman and Chevrolet Hockey Ambassador Bobby Orr at General Motors Place on Tuesday, one day prior to the shootout.

A lifetime Saskatchewanian, Head grew up on the Mistawasis First Nation reserve, located approximately 45 minutes west of Prince Albert. He started playing hockey at age 10 and continued playing recreationally until he was 25 years old. Head currently lives in Prince Albert with his wife Criste and their three children.

TSN and Chevrolet are pleased to announce that the Million Dollar Shootout contest will return for a third installment at the 2009 IIHF World Junior Championship in Ottawa. Details to be announced this Fall.

In last year's inaugural Million Dollar Shootout contest, 29-year old registered nurse Jason Hall of London, ON, walked away with five brand-new 2007 Next Generation Chevy Silverado trucks for himself and four lucky hockey fans. Hall also had the chance to shoot for $1 million, but was just one goal short of the required 15 to win the grand prize $1 million.
