More Independent Voices Express Support for SIRIUS and XM Merger

Music City Mayor Joins Grassroots Organization and Prominent Think Tank as Latest to Endorse Combined SIRIUS-XM

WASHINGTON and NEW YORK, Dec. 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The Mayor of Nashville has joined Citizens for Community Values and Americans for Prosperity as the latest supporters of the pending merger of XM Satellite Radio (NASDAQ:XMSR) and SIRIUS Satellite Radio (NASDAQ:SIRI) . This new support adds to the diverse list of supporters for the pending merger, including consumer organizations, Members of Congress, prominent American businesses and individuals.

In a recent filing with the Federal Communications Commission, Mayor Karl F. Dean detailed how the merger will provide consumers with more diverse content programming options, while creating new business partnerships that benefit listeners and artists alike:

"To the extent that a merger of XM and SIRIUS will strengthen the satellite radio platform -- by providing greater economies of scale and scope for satellite radio operations, expanding the universe of diverse content offered to consumers, and enhancing new business opportunities and partnerships such as those already in progress in Nashville -- the public interest will only benefit." -- Mayor Karl F. Dean, Nashville, Tennessee

Citizens for Community Values applauded SIRIUS and XM for the companies' promise to further empower consumers following the merger:

"We have been informed that, should they be successful with the merger, XM and SIRIUS will offer more choice to their subscribers, particularly related to adult-themed programs. Our constituents, along with many other Americans, do not want to be forced to subsidize such programming. The XM/SIRIUS offer to refund associated subscriptions is a great step forward." -- Phil Burress, President, Citizens for Community Values

Americans for Prosperity highlighted the robust competition within the audio entertainment market and noted that emerging technologies will further enhance consumer choice:

"Present market data suggest that terrestrial radio is the dominant player in the audio entertainment market. No evidence suggests that satellite radio is anything more than a minor player in this market. Moreover, other services in this market are backed by very strong competitors, including major wireless telephone companies and highly successful companies like Apple. We believe that competition will further enhance consumer choice in the coming years." -- Tim Phillips, President, Americans for Prosperity
