NEW YORK, Oct. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- BET kicks off the week of October 15 with the premieres of BET Hip Hop Awards 2007, along with new episodes of AMERICAN GANGSTER and EXALTED. Following are the program descriptions below:
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 16 8:00 p.m. SUNDAY BEST -- Hosted by Kirk Franklin, the nationwide search scoured the country's storefront churches, parishes and mega-churches to find the best undiscovered singers in America. Coached by artists from the gospel and secular worlds including Grammy Award-winning BeBe Winans and dynamic duo Mary Mary who act as judges, the top five finalists will get the chance to take their praise to the next level and earn the title of SUNDAY BEST. America's next best gospel singer will be crowned SUNDAY BEST on Tuesday, December 4th. 9:00 p.m. EXALTED: BISHOP KENNETH C. ULMER -- As leader of the Faithful Central Bible Church, one of Southern California's largest and fastest growing churches, Bishop Kenneth Ulmer is pastor to more than fifteen thousand followers. BET's EXALTED travels with him back to his hometown where he reminisces about his first experiences with racism and his loving relationship with his father. Ulmer also gives viewers a tour of Hollywood Blvd. as he shares the early struggles with his "demons" of divorce, depression and pornography prior to the acceptance of his call to ministry. Narrated by Blair Underwood, EXALTED; a ground-breaking, new, weekly series that explores the lives of African American ministers as they prepare their sermons, lead their congregation, perform weekly ministerial duties and live their everyday lives. WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 17 8:00 p.m. BET HIP HOP AWARDS 2007 -- T.I., Nelly, Lil' Wayne, Kanye West, Common, Wyclef Jean, Keyshia Cole, LL Cool J, Ciara and Soulja Boy are just a few of the hottest artists to take to the stage for the BET Hip Hop Awards 2007 taped at Atlanta's Civic Center on Saturday, October 13. Hosted by veteran actor/comedian Katt Williams for the second year in a row, BET HIP HOP AWARDS 2007 is a tribute to urban music artists at the top of their game. 10:00 p.m. AMERICAN GANGSTER : MELVIN WILLIAMS -- Some people considered this Baltimore crook a genius because of his extremely high I.Q., but as smart as he was, "Little Melvin" Williams never used his brain power for good. Williams was reportedly the man who brought heroin to Baltimore and oversaw his empire for 30 years. He was smart enough to evade the feds, but one day local police planted a handful of pills in his pocket and brought him down. After serving five years, he exacted his revenge by making millions -- but eventually went back to jail. His criminal past inspired the hit HBO series "The Wire." Called "sober, intelligent and appropriately judgmental," by Newsday and "a savvy push into more challenging territory," by Variety, BET'S AMERICAN GANGSTER explores the rise and subsequent fall of some of the country's most notorious African American criminals of all time and the impact their crimes had on the communities in which they were committed. Narrated by Ving Rhames AMERICAN GANGSTER creates a provocative and alternative view of Black America through these criminal's eyes. ** All Times ET/PT About BET Networks
