SATCON 2007: WEGENER to Leverage Satellite-Enabled Solutions to Launch New Services for Content Providers, Broadcasters and Private Networks
DULUTH, Ga., Oct. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Wegener Corporation (NASDAQ:WGNR) , a leading provider of equipment for television, audio, and data distribution networks worldwide, is exhibiting at this year's SATCON convention at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City (Booth #651), starting October 10th. SATCON runs concurrently with HD World and IP Media Expo.
WEGENER's solutions optimize end-to-end media distribution for dynamic, multi-site networks. WEGENER equipment enables broadcast, radio, telco, private and cable networks to distribute video and audio content to millions of people. At SATCON, WEGENER representatives will be available to discuss opportunities to enhance or launch new services, including: digital signage, MPEG-4 (h.264), HD, radio broadcasting, IPTV, and file-based workflows using WEGENER's patented COMPEL(R) network control, iPump media servers and recently introduced Unity 550-2 enterprise media receiver.
The Unity 550-2 includes bandwidth-efficient MPEG-4/h.264 video coding for both standard definition and high definition, as well as advanced DVB-S2 modulation. These new technologies, when integrated with WEGENER's COMPEL network control system allow private networks considerably lower operational costs. The Unity 550-2 can stream to additional WEGENER IPTV decoders that are addressable over existing internal IP networks, providing powerful new private network architectures.
Network operators can achieve 40-70% greater signal compression using MPEG-4/h.264 video compression and DVB-S2 modulation compared with the current standard MPEG-2 video compression and DVB-S satellite modulation. The Unity 550-2 lets network operators explore opportunities to transition live video broadcasts from MPEG-2 to MPEG-4/h.264 video compression with support for both video compression standards during pilot programs, edge networks and full network conversions.
With COMPEL Network Control, receivers are controlled as individual sites and as groups. Group functions provide a network with unparalleled flexibility. Programming, commercials and file transfers can be targeted to increase revenue. COMPEL provides over 6,000 opportunities to segment a target audience. Each group is a portion of the network that can be directed to perform specific functions simultaneously. COMPEL is a field-proven product that controls millions of dollars in revenues for major broadcasters, cable programmers and private networks each day.
