NETGEAR(R) Confirms Deal with Numericable, France's Largest Cable Operator

NETGEAR Selected as Primary Supplier of Wireless Cable Voice Gateways

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Oct. 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- NETGEAR(R), Inc. (NASDAQ:NTGR) , a worldwide provider of technologically advanced, branded networking products, today announced that Numericable, the largest cable operator in France, is offering NETGEAR's Wireless Cable Voice Gateway (CVG834G) to its Internet customers. Already a leader in the European home networking market, NETGEAR expects this relationship to augment its growing presence within France, where Numericable services are available to approximately 40% of all homes -- over 9.5 million households.

"Numericable's selection of NETGEAR's advanced cable gateway further substantiates the growing adoption of our products by service providers around the world," stated Patrick Lo, NETGEAR's chairman and chief executive officer. "Numericable is one of the most important service provider players in France, so we're delighted to provide them with the most innovative, simple and reliable networking solutions -- enabling them to attract and keep more customers in a highly competitive market through greater reach and superior performance."

Numericable is offering NETGEAR's Wireless Cable Voice Gateway (CVG834G) to its customers to support its attractive new service package of 200-plus channels of video, 30 Mbps Internet service, unlimited voice calls and home networking. Numericable is a leading provider in the French pay-TV market, and has been formed from the merger of nearly all French cable TV networks since 2005. With over 4.5 million TV, Internet and telephony subscribers, Numericable has over 99% share of the French cable market. Its service area covers more than 1,200 communities across the country, including Paris and its surroundings.

"We chose NETGEAR as it offers an advantageous end-user home networking experience via a certified, integrated gateway. We have a powerful and complex network, but NETGEAR's team was able to deliver a single product that accommodates all our permutations of DOCSIS(R) and EuroDOCSIS(TM) as well as SIP and the PacketCable(TM) specification," said Philippe Besnier, president of Numericable. "NETGEAR has a well-established reputation and an admirable track record in the networking industry. We believe our customers will find NETGEAR's innovative devices meet their demands in terms of performance, ease-of-use, reliability and stylishness."

NETGEAR's innovative Wireless Cable Voice Gateway (CVG834G) opens the door for service providers to support a wide variety of new services. Combining NETGEAR's field-proven wireless cable modem router with EuroPacketCable(TM) VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) technology, this device delivers all the capabilities of a EuroDOCSIS 2.0 cable modem, 2-port voice terminal adapter, 802.11g wireless access point, firewall, router, and 4-port Ethernet switch with Plug-and-Play(TM) USB connectivity. Now customers can enjoy the broadest spectrum of multimedia, including IP telephony and complete network cable access with double firewall (SPI+NAT) protection for instant high-speed Web access, file sharing, multimedia conferencing, video streaming, interactive gaming, and MP3 downloading -- all without the need for an external modem. NETGEAR's Wireless Cable Voice Gateway (CVG834G) received EuroDOCSIS 2.0 and EuroPacketCable 1.0 Certification in EuroCableLabs Certification Wave #24.

Six products in one, NETGEAR's integrated Wireless Cable Voice Gateway (CVG834G) minimizes the clutter of multiple networking devices and the jumble of wires. It is designed to make network set-up easy for the consumer, avoiding the hassle of getting multiple devices to work together, and simplifying control and management of the home network environment.
