NEW YORK, October 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Parents of Kids with Infectious Diseases (PKIDs) today announced the launch of a national educational campaign, "Silence the Sounds of Pertussis" to sound the alarm about the dangers of pertussis and help parents learn how to best protect their children from this deadly disease.

Commonly known as whooping cough, pertussis is a highly contagious and potentially deadly infection. Particularly dangerous for babies, pertussis can strike at any age. Helping PKIDs get the word out is new mom and award-winning television and movie actress Keri Russell. Keri will give voice to the "Silence the Sounds of Pertussis" campaign in a national public service announcement to begin airing in October 2007.

Russell will share her experiences as a new mom learning how to safeguard her child's health.

The campaign also includes a brochure for parents to learn about pertussis and a guide for talking about infectious diseases with the pediatrician.
