Starting this weekend and performing every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night in the new JEM Bar, Mikole and Carrie bring the best of jazz from yesterday and today to life in a style that is all their own.
Over his 30-year career, saxophonist Mikole E. Karr has traveled the world, playing with the best in the business, including Ti Lavitz, Johnny Hammond, Matt Marucci, Russ Freeman, Llew Matthews, The Chicago 6, The Rancho Santa Fe Big Band -- (led by former IAJE Pres. Jack Wheaton), Brian Nova, Billy Brooks Big Band, John Tru Band, Billy Larkins, Ray Crawford, David Benoit, Yve Evans, Otis Rush, Bonnie Bramlett, and Cash McCall.
Critics and musicians have praised Mikole's sound. Bennie Maupin of Miles Davis Band said, "You hear guys trying to play like this. Timeless, his stuff comes off the dome!" and Tommy Newsome of The Tonight Show Band has said, "Very enjoyable, very accessible music to the listener."
Vocalist Carrie Landsgaard hails from the Southland and has been heard performing across the U.S. and around the world. Recently in southern California, Carrie has performed with premiere jazz players in top venues such as Disneyland's exclusive Club 33 (for the millennium celebration), the Ritz Carlton Palm Springs, The Wyndham Emerald Plaza Int'l Hotel San Diego and the Four Seasons Aviara.
Cynthia Hammond of Jazz88, KSDS 88.3 FM in San Diego is one of Carrie's many critic fans. She has said, "Carrie Landsgaard is one of the rising jazz vocalists in San Diego. Her sound is smooth, crisp and fresh as a morning sunrise."
Mikole and Carrie perform in the JEM Bar Fridays from 6 to 10 p.m.; Saturdays from 7 to 11 p.m.; and Sundays from 6 to 9 p.m. The JEM Bar opens nightly at 4 p.m., and the JEM Steakhouse opens nightly at 5 p.m. under the direction of acclaimed chef Julie Shumway.
