Hawaii Calls Florida Festival Promises to be Biggest Ever Celebration of Hawaiian Food, Music and Culture in Lake Worth on October 27
Admission is Free for a Worthy Cause
LAKE WORTH, Fla., Oct. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Authentic Hawaiian music from the island's traditional songbook, dance performances in full regalia, mouth watering island dishes, and hula lessons for children and adults are but some of the highlights of the 2007 Hawaii Calls Florida Festival being held Saturday, October 27 from 10am -10pm at the Bryant Park Bandstand in Lake Worth.
The event promises to be the biggest, ever cultural celebration of Hawaiian food, music, dance, arts and crafts in South Florida. Its organizers also hope to raise some two thousand dollars to support the children of Hawaii through 'A CHILD IS MISSING ALERT,' a national not-for-profit organization.
"We're anticipating hundreds of the families and friends of South Florida's growing Hawaiian community to flock to this celebration for lovers of the Hawaiian culture, heritage and lifestyle. It's a unique treat and admission is absolutely free," said Charles Kaleialoha Smith, better known as 'Uncle Charlie,' the co-founder of the non-profit Hawaii Calls Florida..
"This marks our eighth annual Ho'olaulea and we're pleased to have the enthusiastic support of the City of Lake Worth, the Chamber of Commerce, the Palm Beach Post, the Office of Hawaiian Affairs and Lake Worth's Aloha Café which have endorsed our festival as a welcome addition to the city's Special Events this year," Smith added.
This year the Office of Hawaiian Affairs' "kau inoa" program endowed Hawaii Calls Florida with a cultural grant to help promote Hawaiian culture. The annual festival seeks to preserve and perpetuate Hawaii's renowned Aloha Spirit - the intangible quality that sets the islands apart, among the growing number of expatriate Hawaiians now living in south Florida. It's the brainchild of Hawaii-born South Florida resident Charles Kaleialoha Smith, who co-founded the non-profit Hawaii Calls Florida with a mission to create a vibrant network of organizations and individuals with ties to Hawaii who help share the island's rich heritage and culture with all people.
