Reporter Julie DeHarty Recovering from Surgery

DALLAS, Aug. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Julie DeHarty, a traffic reporter for KVIL and KRLD radio stations in Dallas, underwent surgery today at Methodist Dallas Medical Center to treat injuries she sustained when a TV news helicopter lost power early Monday, July 30, forcing its pilot to make an emergency landing that injured all three people on board. Two other passengers were treated at Methodist Dallas Medical Center and released. Ms. DeHarty sustained injury to her head and neck. She is currently recovering from surgery and in stable condition.

The family requests that in lieu of gifts or flowers, well-wishers do something to help others. Donations may be made to the Methodist Health System Foundation in honor of Julie. E-mail wishes can also be sent to: getwelljulie@gmail.com.

"The outpouring of concern from the community has been overwhelming," said DeHarty's husband David, "We appreciate everyone's thoughts and prayers and look forward to getting Julie home to continue the healing process."

Methodist Dallas Medical Center is a Level II trauma center, and a primary recipient of trauma occurring within Southwest Dallas County. Methodist receives patients from a radius of 150 miles and admits over 1,500 trauma patients each year.

"Providing trauma care to our community is part of our mission of service," said Kim Hollon, President of Methodist Dallas Medical, "We have a proud tradition of providing care in times of need, and I am pleased that we were able to be of service to Julie and her family."
