Life of Rolling Stones Leader, Brian Jones, Compared to Tale of David vs. Goliath
Life of Rolling Stones Leader, Brian Jones, Compared to Tale of David vs. Goliath
JOHNSTOWN, Colo., July 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Award-winning screenwriter Gloria Shepherd offers this follow-up to the March release of her biography "Brian Jones Straight from the Heart - the Rolling Stones Murder," told through the eyes of Brian Jones himself. This controversial, sexually explicit history of the Rolling Stones founder has met strong resistance from the Stones' camp since its launch. Nevertheless, even though the no-holds-barred account hasn't had the luxury of national media coverage, the book continues to hold its #1 position on Amazon for the past four months among 3,400+ listings and numerous 5-star reviews. Canada's Abort Magazine refers to the story as "required reading for all music lovers."
Shortly after the book appeared on Amazon's United Kingdom website, and also began to accumulate 5-star reviews, it was stripped from the UK's web pages. The reason given for removing the biography was "due to legal issues." No further explanation is offered. The author isn't surprised by her book's removal. An earlier book, also attempting to describe the Stones' history and Brian Jones' suspicious death, has been stripped from British bookshelves.
Ignoring her own death threats, Ms. Shepherd is determined to keep her book alive and in the public eye. She compares Brian Jones' life to the tale of David vs. Goliath. Young, petite, and naive, Brian's Goliath was the Rolling Stones money machine. However, unlike the Bible, Brian lost his life. Now this book levels the battlefield by telling what really happened to the band's founder. Written mainly from Brian's POV, the Stones rise to stardom is chronicled, ending with British authorities' failure to properly investigate the fragile, bisexual bandleader's death at age 27.
Brian had desperately tried to thwart the overtaking of his band by a ruthless management, and began to accumulate data proving his band's money was being illegally siphoned. Friends Dylan and Lennon forewarned him not to continue his investigation, but by the time Jones realized their warnings were turning prophetic, he had already lost his band to the giant Goliath.
Contrary to rumors spread since his death, Brian had a clear vision to introduce world music into the Stones catalog. The band declined - content to crank out mundane sounds as long as records sold. After a bitter fight over musical direction, the brokenhearted leader left the band he created, planning to start anew and take the Rolling Stones name with him. Three weeks later he "accidentally drowned" in his swimming pool. To this day, ignoring much evidence to the contrary regarding the actual cause of Brian's death, the coroner continues to report his death a "misadventure." Using Brian's vivid words describing death threats, plus witness accounts, the biography recounts what actually happened.
