SHADES Magazine Debuts June 1st

New online publication challenges readers to think beyond 'black and white'

CLEVELAND, June 1 /PRNewswire/ -- SHADES (www.shadeszine.com), a new online magazine launching June 1, dares to break out of the mainstream mold and inspire us to change the way we see the world. SHADES is a manifest of creative, thought-provoking ideas and strives to be an all-inclusive consortium for young artists and activists who are making waves in their communities.

The June/July issue will feature new J Records recording artist Emily King, a 21 year-old singer/songwriter who's creating an underground buzz as a soulful blend of Alicia Keys and Norah Jones. Other interviews include Hollywood comedian David A. Arnold, who speaks out about why he won't cut the 'N' word from his acts; and a discussion with Fortune magazine journalist Cora Daniels, who addresses the fluidity of the "ghetto" mentality in her latest book, Ghettonation, that is creating a cultural phenomenon in the minds and homes of white suburbia.

"We're creating a multi-cultural dialogue with SHADES Magazine that will open the doors for people of all races and sexual orientations to voice their opinions and concerns about the ongoing social changes that are affecting them on a local, national and global scale," says founder and publisher, Stephanie Barnes.

"SHADES is also developing during an exciting time for online publishing and creating it is a cost-efficient starting point to merge into print," she continues.

"However, the challenge with creating an online magazine is that it leads to an automatic assumption that this is another blog site and it isn't. SHADES is designed as an offset of print media, and the fact that it's also free adds to our marketing and advertising appeal."

Each issue of SHADES will include provocative, in-depth profile interviews; social commentary; essay tributes to historical trailblazers; book, film and music reviews; and original poetry and photography.
