Trident's SVP EX With DCRe(TM) Powers New Digital CRT TVs From Changhong
SUNNYVALE, Calif., Oct. 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Trident Technologies, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Trident Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ:TRID), a worldwide leader in developing advanced digital TV technology for the consumer digital video marketplace, today announced that Changhong, one of China's leading television Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), is using Trident's SVP EX with DCRe(TM) to power its new digital CRT TVs for the Chinese marketplace. The models include the CHD29200 and CHD 34200 short-tube CRTs; the CHD32200 16:9 CRT; and the CHD29188 and CHD34188 4:8 CRTs. The sets are now in mass production.
"We selected Trident's SVP EX because it enables us to offer significantly better image quality to our customers while lowering our system cost," said Xu Ming, General Manager of Changhong. "The SVP EX video processor is a highly-integrated, feature-rich solution that we can use across a wide range of TV designs to meet both domestic and export TV markets' dynamic requirements."
"China has become a major production base for the global television market. We are extremely pleased that Changhong, a leader in this market, has chosen the SVP EX for its new digital CRT line-up," said Dr. J.H. Chang, Trident Technologies, Inc. President. "Leveraging on its huge success in the worldwide LCD TV market, SVP EX has been very well received by all leading TV manufacturers in China. Changhong's digital CRT design win marks the beginning of a powerful SVP EX march in China, not only for digital CRT, but also in LCD TV, PDP and rear-projection TV."
Trident's DPTV(TM) SVP EX video processor features award-winning technology that includes an advanced 3-D digital comb color decoder; pixel-perfect, motion adaptive, de-interlacing, vertical and horizontal sharpness enhancement; object-based intelligent digital noise reduction; dynamic Average Picture Level (APL) feedback to enhance video dynamic range; and the DETI engine to provide vivid colors. The DPTV(TM) SVP EX integrates an advanced, fourth-generation 3-D/2-D digital comb video decoder for NTSC, PAL, and SECAM formats. Based on Trident's patented unified memory architecture, DPTV(TM) SVP EX's digital comb video decoder does not require an extra frame buffer for performing 3D comb filtering. With film-mode recovery, DPTV(TM) SVP EX correctly detects the frame rates of incoming video sources, and then dynamically restores the video source to the original film mode sequences for playback. The film-mode recovery of DPTV(TM) SVP EX eliminates the artifacts found in a typical interlaced signal to progressive conversion process. The motion adaptive, de-interlacing, and edge-smoothing feature of the DPTV(TM) SVP EX refines the video display quality.
In addition, the DPTV(TM) SVP EX enables a standard-definition signal to display in Picture-in-Picture mode, Picture-Out-Picture mode, and 16:9 or 4:3 aspect ratio modes. DPTV(TM) SVP EX supports non-linear scaling in panorama mode to ensure the most natural picture aspect ratio for the viewers. DPTV(TM) SVP EX's integrated, 3-D digital comb video decoder has a built-in VBI slicer and decoder for closed caption and V-chip parental control that is EIA 608 compliant. Furthermore, DPTV(TM) SVP EX's full-screen, bit-mapped, on-screen display enables an exceptionally user-friendly and graphically-oriented TV menu control. Both interlaced and progressive-scan video output are supported.
