Nearly One in Three U.S. Adults in a Committed Relationship Has Lied to His or Her Partner About Spending Habits, New Survey Finds

Some of today's cheaters can be found not only in motel rooms but also in shopping malls, as financial deceit becomes a new breed of infidelity. Nearly one-third of U-S adults ages 25 to 55 who are in a committed relationship say they have been dishonest with their partner about spending habits, according to a joint survey sponsored by Redbook magazine and lawyers.com. Results of the survey, conducted by Harris Interactive, appear in the November issue of Redbook. Despite the lack of financial candor among some couples, 24 percent of all those currently in a relationship say honesty about finances is more important than honesty about fidelity, and 72 percent say trust is essential to a successful romance. Women are more likely to be the ones keeping information from their partners, the study shows. One possible explanation is that it may be easier for women to hide those extra purchases or overdue bills because they are more likely to be in charge of the household budget, the survey found.

Parents Concerned About Internet Usage in the Classroom

While many schools have strengthened their computer security, parents across America are concerned about inappropriate content and information theft when their kids log on in the classroom, The Conference Board and T-N-S report. Approximately 41 percent of online households include school-age children enrolled in Kindergarten through college. Nearly 56 percent of parents are concerned that their kids view only age-appropriate content when logging on from the classroom. Their second biggest worry -- voiced by half of all parents -- is about privacy and identity theft. Unsolicited email ranks a very close third. Some 49 percent of parents are irritated that they and their kids are bombarded by unsolicited email. Parents are also concerned about the spreading of viruses through file sharing and spyware devices.
