NBC 5 to Air 2005 Quill Book Awards on Saturday, October 22nd

DALLAS and FORT WORTH, Texas, Oct. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- NBC's Al Roker and Jane Hanson will spotlight winners of the 2005 Quill Book Awards in a one-hour television special on NBC 5. The Quill awards celebrate reading and honor excellence in the publishing industry. Airing Saturday, October 22nd at 12:30 p.m. after NBC 5 Midday Saturday, the 2005 Quill Book Awards will present highlights from the Quills black-tie awards gala and feature interviews and profiles of some of the night's big winners.

Hosted by NBC's Brian Williams, the inaugural Quill awards dinner will feature presentations by some of the publishing industry's most well known authors, including Jon Stewart, Kim Cattrall, Robert Klein, Matthew Modine, Erica Jong, and Maria Bartiromo. Awards are given out in multiple categories including Best Debut Author, Humor, Business, Romance, General Fiction and Book of the Year.

The Quill Award winners are chosen by readers. A national panel of approximately 6,000 booksellers and librarians made nominations, and consumer voting online determined winners. Participating booksellers also carried a Quills brochure for customers to take home, listing the nominees and instructions for voting.

In January 2005, Reed Business Information and the NBC Universal Television Stations announced they had joined forces to seed and support the Quills launch and awards.
