Four New Consumer Electronics Manufacturers Acquire Licenses to Build HD Radio Modules and Receivers

Market Specialists City Electronics, OPUS Art and Technology, Sangean, and Zylux Acoustic Corp Targeting 2006 HD Radio Product Introductions

HONG KONG, Oct. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- HK Electronics Fair -- iBiquity Digital, the sole developer of HD Radio(TM) technology, announced today that four new manufacturers -- City Electronics, OPUS Art and Technology Co. Ltd., Sangean and Zylux Acoustic Corp -- have acquired licenses to develop HD Radio modules and receivers. These companies, along with existing HD Radio licensees RockridgeSound Technology Co. and Orient Power, will use iBiquity's recently released HD Radio reference designs in manufacturing home and tabletop receivers.

"These companies are among the largest Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM)/Original Design Manufacturers (ODM) manufacturers in China, supplying product to many well-known brands and retailers in the U.S. Their decision to begin manufacturing HD Radio products signifies their belief in the size and potential of the HD Radio marketplace. It also demonstrates our commitment to making lower-priced HD Radio receivers available to U.S. consumers eager to take advantage of the great HD Radio sound quality and exciting features such as multicasting," said Jeff Jury, chief operating officer, iBiquity Digital. "The combination of our existing reference designs and the speed at which these companies can manufacture products make it possible that we will see HD Radio receivers reach mass market retailers by summer 2006."

The inclusion of these six China-based licensees gives HD Radio technology a broad footprint among module manufacturers in Asia. iBiquity Digital also has HD Radio partnerships with South Korean-based companies ACE Technology, D&H Solutions, Kiryung, Samsung Electro-Mechanics and TBK as well as Japan's TOKO Inc.

About HD Radio(TM)

Over 2,800 radio stations in the U.S. are in the process of converting to the HD Radio system with more than 500 HD Radio broadcasters currently on the air. HD Radio technology transmits digital audio and data alongside existing AM and FM analog signals, allowing listeners with HD Radio-compatible receivers to enjoy CD-quality sound, while virtually eliminating the static and hiss typically associated with analog radio. Beyond delivering superior sound, the technology provides a platform for advanced new services, including scrolling text on receiver display screens (e.g., artist names & song titles, weather forecasts, school closings); delivery of real-time traffic updates to vehicles; and multicasting -- a feature that allows FM stations to broadcast up to eight digital streams of programming over a single frequency and in addition to existing analog signals. HD Radio receivers are now available or expected later this year from: ADA, Alpine, Boston Acoustics, DaySequerra, JVC, Kenwood, Panasonic, Radiosophy, Rotel, Sanyo, and Yamaha, with many more under development.
