Dr. Robert H. Schuller to Speak at Woodbury, Receive Julius Shulman Communication Award
BURBANK, Calif., Oct. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. Robert H. Schuller, Crystal Cathedral pastor whose "Hour of Power" is the most widely televised one-hour church service in the world, will discuss his life as a minister during an October 30 event at Woodbury University.
Dr. Schuller also will receive the 2005 Julius Shulman Communication Award, presented annually to an individual -- judged by Shulman and his committee -- who thoroughly understands the essentials of objective and qualitative communication. Shulman, a famed architectural photographer and friend of the university, will present a slide show of the Crystal Cathedral during the event.
A cocktail and buffet reception will begin at 6 p.m., with the program beginning at 7 p.m. at Woodbury University, 7500 Glenoaks Boulevard, Burbank. Cost is $50 per person for the entire evening or $25 per person for the program only. Proceeds benefit Woodbury University's Library Associates, a volunteer organization dedicated to improving library services.
Dr. Schuller came to Garden Grove, California, in 1955 to found the Reformed Church in America's congregation there. With his wife, Arvella, as organist and $500 in assets, he rented the Orange Drive-in theater and conducted Sunday services from the roof of the snack bar. The congregation's growth over the years dictated the decision to build the Crystal Cathedral, home base for the international Crystal Cathedral Ministries that now includes a congregation of more than 10,000 members and the internationally televised "Hour of Power." Dr. Schuller is the author of more than 30 books, six of which have made the New York Times and Publishers Weekly bestseller lists.
