'Building Communities in Concert' Features Sandtown-Winchester Students Performing With Soulful Symphony

Proceeds from EWN-Sponsored Fundraiser to Benefit Elementary and Middle Schools in Baltimore City

Education and the arts will come alive at the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall in Baltimore, as elementary and middle school students from Sandtown-Winchester perform special selections onstage with the critically acclaimed Soulful Symphony featuring Darin Atwater.

This fundraiser, "Building Communities in Concert," is hosted by the Enterprise Women's Network (EWN), a group of Baltimore community leaders who are committed to helping a generation of low-income women lift themselves and their families out of poverty through philanthropy, volunteerism, networking and advocacy. In five years, EWN volunteers have raised over $1 million to support Enterprise's work in Baltimore, contributed over 11,000 volunteer hours and donated over 9,000 new and gently used books to Sandtown-Winchester students.

As a result of Enterprise's education program, first graders in one school moved their reading scores within one year from among the worst to one of the top performers in Baltimore city. Proceeds from this benefit concert will support an instrumental music program, community resource centers, HIPPY (home instruction for parents of pre-school youngsters), mentoring, and academic and social support for the schools.
