United's Commercial, 'A Life,' Deemed a Work of Art by the Museum of Modern Art

'A Life' Becomes Part of the MOMA's Permanent Collection; Touring in Chicago, Dallas and San Francisco

CHICAGO, Sept. 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- United Airlines today announced that its television commercial, "A Life," will be displayed in the Museum of Modern Art's (MOMA) permanent collection that starts touring the United States on Oct. 11, 2005. MOMA chose the commercial because it was given the 2005 Association of Independent Commercial Producers (AICP) Award for animation.

"United's unique advertising is making a significant impact with our customers because it shows them that we understand travel is an essential part of their lives," says Dennis Cary, United's senior vice president-Marketing. "It's an honor that our advertising campaign continues to be recognized for its effectiveness, and now has been deemed a 'piece of art' by the Museum of Modern Art."

The award-winning commercial was created by Fallon Minneapolis and shows the important role that travel plays in the life of a business person in work and in pleasure. Animated by Academy Award(R)-winning artist Michael Dudok De Wit, the 60-second spot follows the life of a business person, flying to meetings throughout his career and then flying to leisure trips after retirement. It is set to Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue."

"Illustrating a person's life and retirement in 60 seconds was not an easy task," says Stuart D'Rozario, group creative director and copywriter at Fallon. "Michael Dudok De Wit accomplished this beautifully and artfully by making every frame tell a story."

AICP Awards winners are touring the United States as part of the MOMA's permanent collection in selected cities including: San Francisco at the MOMA on Oct. 11; Dallas at the Museum of Art on Oct. 19; Winston-Salem at the North Carolina School of the Arts on Nov. 3; and Chicago at the Museum of Contemporary Art on Nov. 17.
