'The Survivor Movie' Educates Viewers Just in Time for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Cancer Survivors Kathy and Roger Cawthon Have Created a Short Internet film, Which More Than 150,000 People Have Seen Since Its Release 10 Weeks Ago

HAMPTON, Va., Sept. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Kathy and Roger Cawthon are real survivors. They are cancer survivors. They have created an Internet movie that is bringing hope and inspiration to tens of thousands of other survivors throughout the world. With Breast Cancer Awareness month coming up in October, the movie is a great resource for the more than 10 million cancer survivors in the United States.

"The Survivor Movie," a 31/2-minute Internet movie, is now being forwarded from one friend to another. More than 3,500 people have written to the Cawthons to say "thank you," and many have called the film a "masterpiece."

Kathy and Roger, cancer survivors for 10 years, were looking for a way to "give something back" to the community that supported them during their battles with cancer. Roger heard about a company that produces Internet movies, and Kathy went to work creating a powerful message.

Little did they know that their modest efforts would explode into a worldwide ministry of support. The production company distributed the movie, and, one by one, viewers forwarded it to friends and family members. The production company confirmed that more than 150,000 people had viewed the movie in the first 10 weeks after its release.

"It took us completely by surprise," Kathy says. "We were blown away by the power of the Internet."

When more than 3,500 people e-mailed her with their own stories of battling cancer, Kathy decided to answer them. "They were reaching out for help and support," she says. "We heard stories of courage and strength and determination. We felt an instant connection to people all over the world."

"The Survivor Movie" is on the Internet for free viewing at www.TheSurvivorMovie.com. A link at the end of the movie makes it easy for viewers to forward to family and friends.

"We kept seeing the word 'masterpiece,' over and over, in all those e-mails, and we knew we had struck a cord," Roger says. "When you think about 10 million cancer survivors in the U.S., that's a lot of people who need support."

Kathy and Roger Cawthon, married for 21 years, are both 10-year cancer survivors who were diagnosed at the same time. Four years after their diagnoses, in 1999, they completed the grueling 26.2 mile Marine Corps Marathon. Shortly thereafter, they co-founded "The Cancer Crusade," an organization dedicated to "fighting cancer with hope and humor." ( www.TheCancerCrusade.com )
