Star of 'THE OC' to Open New Women's Health Pavilion in the OC

BROADCAST ALERT

WHAT: Star of "THE OC," Melinda Clarke ("Julie Cooper") Lends a Spotlight to Women's Health Care Issues in Orange County

Melinda Clarke of "THE OC" will join local Orange County residents for the opening of the new Sue and Bill Gross Women's Pavilion to help put a spotlight on two of the most important trends affecting women's health and health care today.

Broadcast coverage and story opportunities include:

* 10 a.m. -- Melinda Clarke and breast cancer survivors cutting a ribbon on the first floor of the Women's Pavilion in celebration of the opening of the Hoag Breast Care Center; this is the first and only center in Orange County to offer direct-to-digital mammography

According to a study released last week from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and published online by the New England Journal of Medicine, digital mammography is proven to be up to 28% more effective than traditional mammography film in detecting breast tumors.

* Direct-to-digital mammography -- comparison footage between direct-to-digital and traditional film mammography

* Evidence-based hospital design -- on-site footage of health and healing through architecture, design and construction of this new, state-of-the-art women's health care facility

More than 600 studies from the Center of Health Design show that hospital design, if not properly implemented, can actually increase risk of infections and medical error due to staff inattention to detail; elevate levels of stress hormones; reduce immune function; and produce higher levels of anxiety and depression. All of which play a significant role in a patient's health and recovery process.

* Also available are breast cancer survivor testimonials, interview with female architect responsible for building design, medical expert interviews and more.

WHEN: Saturday, September 24 10 a.m.

WHERE: Sue and Bill Gross Women's Pavilion Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian One Hoag Drive, Newport Beach
