Soupy to Nuts! A Nostalgic Trip Through Detroit Television

DETROIT, Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Noted Detroit journalist Tim Kiska will talk about his new book, "Soupy to Nuts: A history of Detroit Television," celebrating the heyday of television in the Motor City at a Women In Communications (WIC) of Detroit program on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2005 at 6 p.m. at Gala, 33316 Grand River, Farmington.

Kiska, a University of Michigan/Dearborn professor and former Detroit News and Detroit Free Press reporter, will recount the glory days of local television, dish about the celebrities and share juicy behind the scenes stories. From Soupy Sales, Bill Kennedy, and Dick the Bruiser, to Sonny Elliot, Anne Doyle and Bill Bonds, Kiska calls it "a celebration of ... when TV was as local as Vernors, Sanders Hot Fudge and Hudson's." It also was written to keep alive memories of such programs as The George Pierrot Show, a travel show, and The Sagebrush Shorty Show, a children's program.

The cost is $25 for Women In Communications members and students, $35 for non-members. Gala is a newly opened, five-star restaurant with great ambience and will be serving hors d'oeuvres. Deadline for reservations is October 4. For more information or to make reservations, call 248-652-1460.
