The Salvation Army and Comcast Partner to Give Youth Centers Facelift

300 Local Volunteers Will Paint, Clean and Refloor The Salvation Army Red Shield Weingart Youth Center and The Salvation Army Way In Youth Shelter & Drop In Center in Hollywood

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- "It's going to be fun to see what so many people can do in just one day," said 11-year-old Jack, a member of The Salvation Army Weingart Youth Center. "I can't wait to see what my Center looks like when they're finished." Jack is one of the hundreds of boys and girls who will benefit from Comcast Cares Day, a volunteer beautification project at:

* The Salvation Army Red Shield Weingart Youth Center and the Way In Shelter & Drop In Center (5941 Hollywood Blvd., Los Angeles, 90028) on Saturday, October 1, 2005 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The Salvation Army Weingart Youth Center provides Hollywood youth with educational and recreational enrichment opportunities while its next-door neighbor The Salvation Army Way In Youth Shelter & Drop In Center offers runaway teens a refuge from the streets.

This community volunteer day is being sponsored by Comcast as part of its annual day of service. "Given all the devastation caused by the hurricanes, it is especially gratifying to partner with The Salvation Army on this local project," said Debi Picciolo, Senior Vice President of Comcast. "This volunteer day gives us an opportunity as individuals, communities, families and companies to demonstrate what we can accomplish when we work together."

In addition to the day of service on October 1, Comcast employees volunteer year-round with a variety of projects and organizations through the company's Comcast Cares program.

"We are extremely excited that we are one of three non-profit organizations chosen by Comcast for this year's Comcast Cares Day project," said Major Paul R. Seiler, Divisional Commander of The Salvation Army Southern California. "Comcast volunteers will be providing a host of improvements that will enhance our Centers and provide an uplifting environment for the boys and girls we serve."
