Relief From 3 Doors Down; Wal-Mart/SAM'S CLUB Assists 'Relief Convoy' for Rock Band Through Mississippi's Katrina Impacted Areas
Today in a convoy of police cars, a fire truck, and three Wal-Mart/SAM'S CLUB trucks, the rock band 3 Doors Down will deliver more than $100,000 worth of product from SAM'S CLUB to Mississippi communities hard hit by Katrina. Members of the band have been personally impacted by the storm, being from the Biloxi, Mississippi-impacted area, and have involved their foundation to help.
These Wal-Mart/SAM'S CLUBS trucks are loaded with basic needs items such as blankets, diapers, and shampoo, as well as larger relief services needs such as lap top computers. All products were purchased by the band's "The Better Life Foundation," which has been actively involved in helping victims of Katrina. Wal-Mart (NYSE:WMT) is providing the transport and drivers.
Leaving Mobile, Ala. this morning, the convoy is making three stops to unload the trucks. The band is riding with the convoy, which also includes their tour buses. 3 Doors Down will loan their tour buses to the Waveland police and fire departments as mobile sleeping units in the coming weeks.
The final stop this afternoon will be in Waveland, Miss., which was hardest hit in the state by Katrina -- all police and fire department property was destroyed. The Better Life Foundation will present Waveland Mayor Tommy Longo three police cars and a fire truck it brought with the convoy.
Below are the scheduled stops. The convoy left at 8 a.m. this morning from Mobile, Ala.
1st stop 9:00am 1st Baptist Church, 902 Live Oak Ave. Pascagoula, Miss.
2nd stop 11:30am, Walgreen's, Dedeaux Rd. (exit Hwy 49 North, go about 3 miles) Harrison County (I-10 and Hwy 49), Miss.
