Rally Outside Canadian Embassy to Support Workers Locked Out by Canadian Broadcasting Corporation

Rally Outside Canadian Embassy to Support Workers Locked Out by Canadian Broadcasting Corporation

WASHINGTON, Sept. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- CWA President Larry Cohen, AFL-CIO President John Sweeney, TNG-CWA President Linda Foley and union members will rally outside the Canadian Embassy, then deliver a letter to Embassy officials calling for a fair contract for locked out workers at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.

Where: Canadian Embassy -- 501 Pennsylvania Avenue NW (at Constitution Ave.) When: Monday, September 12, at 12:15pm - 1:15pm Why: Monday is Day 29 of the nationwide lockout of 5,500 Canadian Media Guild members by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.

Key issues for CBC workers include job security and management's demand to hire nearly unlimited numbers of temporary workers, contracting out and the ability to move into new jobs, and better opportunity for training and skill development. The CBC workers are on-air, production, technical and administrative staff.

Journalists in many cities around the world will be holding rallies and other support events on Monday, September 12. The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) will hold a rally in London, and letters of support will be delivered to the Canadian Embassies in Paris, Moscow, Berlin, Jerusalem, Brussels, Sydney, Tokyo and Seoul.
